imageHollywood actor Johnny Depp might face 10 years of jail sentence for illegally bringing his dog to Australia.

According to People magazine, an Australian Senate committee was told Monday the actor could face jail time or a maximum fine of $265,000 if the case ends up going to court.

The actor, who visited Australia to film the latest installment of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ brought his two Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo, into the country via a private jet without proper documentation. The country has strict laws to minimize bio-security risks that require animals to spend 10 days in quarantine, and pet owners must apply for a permit, foreign media reported.

As per the law, Depp can face 10 years of imprisonment for illegally bringing his pets to Australia. But, in reality it’s very unlikely Depp will be jailed, instead a major fine is expected.

The Australian government had given the actor two days to take his pets out of Australia or they would be put down. This had prompted Johnny Depp and his wife to fly the dogs out of the country immediately.
