ISLAMABAD: Turkmenistan is desirous to export surplus gas and electricity to Pakistan to help the brotherly country overcome energy crisis that has been hampering economic growth.

Turkmenistan can help Pakistan overcome energy crisis which is hampering growth in the brotherly country, said Ambassador of Republic Turkmenistan to Pakistan, Sapar Berdiniyazov.

"Apart from surplus gas; we also have excess electricity that can be marketed in Pakistan for mutual benefit," he said while addressing a function at Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) capital office, Islamabad.

He said that development of the Transit Afghanistan Pipeline (TAP or TAPI) could be significant development in the relations between the two countries.

Turkmenistan also wants enhanced economic and cultural ties with Pakistan which is one of the best investment destinations in the region, he said adding the two countries enjoy cordial, brotherly ties based on the common culture and history.

"We aim to expand the cooperation between the two countries in various fields including oil, gas, energy, agriculture, science, technology, infrastructure and education," he added.

For the purpose, officials of the Embassy of Turkmenistan plan to visit all important business chambers for interaction with business community, he said adding that it would also organize series of lectures in Pakistani educational institutions to boost awareness and relations.

On the occasion, Raza Khan, Chairman Coordination at FPCCI Capital Office said that government and business community of Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Turkmenistan.

He said that local exporters can explore opportunities in Turkmenistan in the sectors of detergents, leather garments, clots and pharmaceuticals and also highlighted the importance of materializing the TAPI project without further delay in order to meet growing energy shortages.

FPCCI will try its best to cement economic cooperation and people to people contact, he added.
