imageSIALKOT: The Punjab government has allocated Rs 14.97 billion during the current fiscal year for promotion of the agriculture sector and welfare of the grower community in the province.

Sources in the Agriculture department told APP on Thursday that under the programme, a special attention would be accorded on enhancement of agriculture yield, promotion of drip irrigation system, leaser land leveling and construction of water courses for improving the irrigation system in the Punjab. The work on the programme will soon be launched.

Apart from this, the programme would help improve supply chain of agriculture produce and the livestock in the province. Under the programme, arrangements were being made for enhancing yield of profitable crops, vegetables and other crops.

The government was also taking solid steps for increasing fruit and vegetable export aimed at increasing a volume of the province. A basic concept of programmes was not only to increase agriculture yield but also to improve income for growers of the Punjab, the sources added.
