imageBENONI: Marlon Samuels and Devon Smith continued to feast on the South African Invitation XI bowling as the touring West Indians took a massive 383-run first innings lead on the second day of their three-day match at Willowmoore Park on Thursday.

The Invitation team reduced the deficit by 17 runs without loss in their second innings before bad light ended play an hour early.

Samuels (203) and the left-handed Smith (174) put on 360 for the third wicket in a West Indian total of 508. Both batsmen retired.

Samuels was in aggressive mood as he added 100 runs to his overnight score of 103 off only 74 balls before retiring. He faced a total of 176 deliveries, hitting 32 fours and four sixes.

Smith batted on until after lunch. He faced 277 balls and hit 25 fours and a six.

However, other West Indian batsmen were unable to join the run spree.

Stalwart Shivnarine Chanderpaul edged left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi to slip for a second ball duck, while Jermaine Blackwood and Assad Fudadin were out for four and 10 respectively.

Captain Denesh Ramdin made an unbeaten 48 before his team were all out.

The match is the only warm-up fixture for the West Indians before the first Test against South Africa, which starts at Centurion on Wednesday.
