roads-in-pakistanKARACHI: Some 1,900 kms of roads affected by the last year's flood in the province, repaired so far.

This was informed to the Senior Sindh Minister for Works and Services Dr. Zulfikar Mirza at a briefing here on Saturday.

An official of the Department said that 2,352 kms of provincial roads and 27 service bridges had been damaged due to unprecedented floods 2010 in Sindh.

It was further informed that Rs.554 million were released for restoration and rehabilitation and as a result 1,900 kms of roads across the province have so far been repaired.

The Secretary Works and Services Department, Arif Ahmed Khan, also briefed about the Flood Emergency Reconstruction Project (FERP) with Asian Development Bank (ADB) assistance.

"The loan agreement was executed on 21-03-2011 under which US$ 131 million had been approved for the project. As per the loan agreement 800 kms of Road would be reconstructed and rehabilitated", the Secretary added

Dr. Mirza asked the officers of Works and Services Department to gear up the pace of development work being undertaken by the Department across the province with special focus on development schemes/projects initiated for restoration/rehabilitation of flood affected areas.
