'Per capita eggs consumption in Pakistan around 50-60'

akistanLAHORE: Per capita eggs consumption in Pakistan is 55-60 eggs against the requirement of 250-300. Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association (NZ) Dr. Ghulam Mehboob said, in a press briefing here on Friday.

 

He said that per capita consumption of meat is only 5.5 KG whereas standard requirement is 25-28 kg meat. 

 

He said that Pakistan Poultry Association is celebrating World Egg Day by organizing seminars at different places to make the general public aware about the nutritional value of egg and its importance in human diet.

 

According to experts, the annual consumption of 300 eggs is necessary for human health. "We are producing 9,410 million table eggs and 953,000 metric ton chicken meat annually", they said.

 

He informed that poultry sector is one of the most organized branch of the agro-based sector of Pakistan.

 

Poultry at present contributes 40% of the total meat consumption and generates employment and income for about fifteen hundred thousand people.
