Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures rose Monday on weather worries, amid forecasts of a potential cold snap in the US Great Plains region and signs of growing dryness across the Black Sea Region, traders said.
CBOT May soft red winter wheat ended up 6-1/2 cents at $5.55-3/4 per bushel.
K.C. May hard red winter wheat ended up 3-3/4 cents at $4.75-3/4 a bushel, while MGEX May spring wheat rose 2-1/4 cents to $5.26-3/4.
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported on Monday that weekly wheat export inspections were 320,371 tonnes for the week ended April 2, compared to 556,180 tonnes for the period a year earlier.
Importing countries have signaled plans to boost strategic grain reserves because of stockpiling due to the novel coronavirus.
