Vietnam's 2019 coffee exports likely down

Published Updated

Vietnam's coffee exports in 2019 likely fell 13.9% to 1.61 million tonnes, while rice exports likely rose 2.5%, government data released on Friday showed.

COFFEE

Coffee exports from Vietnam are expected to fall an estimated 13.9% in 2019 from a year earlier to 1.61 million tonnes, equal to 2.68 million 60-kg bags, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said.

Coffee export revenue for Vietnam, the world's biggest producer of the robusta bean, will likely decline 21.2% to $2.785 billion in 2019.

The country's coffee shipments in December are estimated at 150,000 tonnes, valued at $258 million.

RICE

Rice exports in 2019 are forecast to increase 2.5% from a year earlier to 6.259 million tonnes. Revenue from rice exports in the period is expected to drop 9.9% to $2.758 billion.

December rice exports from Vietnam, the world's third-largest shipper of the grain, likely totalled 390,000 tonnes, worth $180 million.

ENERGY

Vietnam's 2019 crude oil exports were seen rising 3.6% from the same period last year to an estimated 4.1 million tonnes.

Crude oil export revenue in the year is expected to fall 7.8% from a year earlier to $2.025 billion.

Oil product imports in 2019 were estimated at 7.675 million tonnes, up 48.2% from the same period last year, while the value of product imports increased 31.6% to $3.615 billion. Vietnam's 2019 liquefied petroleum gas imports were seen rising 27.5% from a year earlier to 1.843 million tonnes. The GSO trade data is subject to revision next month.
