ISLAMABAD: The prices of essential kitchen items showed mixed trend, as prices of some items registered a nominal decline, while others a little increase during the week under review as compared to the previous week, reveals a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Saturday.

Traders and wholesalers in different markets of Rawalpindi/Islamabad said that prices of some of the kitchen items including some vegetables, chicken and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) witnessed a nominal decline. Similarly ghee, cooking oil, pulses and fruits prices remained on high side. However prices of some kitchen items remained unchanged during the last week as compared to the preceding week. Traders attributed the decline in vegetables prices to good supply. However they opined that due to rapid increase in petroleum products, electricity and gas prices, most of the kitchen items prices are continuously increasing.

Survey revealed that prices of most of the vegetables witnessed decline and downward trend was observed during the week past. Tomato was available at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 60, tinda at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 50, kareela at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 100 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 120 and chili at 100 per kg against Rs 120 per kg last week. However potato price increased from Rs 25 to Rs 30 per kg, shimla mirch at Rs 80 per kg, arvi at Rs 50, cucumber at Rs 40 per kg and okra was available at Rs 150-80 per kg. Ghee/cooking oil were available at Rs 185 to Rs 200 per kg/liter on different brands.
