(Karachi) Pakistan's efforts in the field of technology has paid of after local assemblers developed a motorbike which only runs on electricity. Local motorcycle manufacturers have started producing bikes that would run on electricity and will help a common man get rid of increasing oil and petrol prices.

The initiative has been taken by two motorbike manufacturers from Sahiwal and Lahore.

In view of the increasing petrol prices in the country, it has become difficult for most of the motorbike riders from the middle-class to afford them. It is a need of time for Pakistan to shift to electric two-wheelers to cut fuel cost.

In the last few years, various foreign companies have introduced electric motorbikes in the country but they failed to attract buyers due to high cost.

Taking the lead

CEO of Auj Technologies, Usman Sheikh, a Lahore-based electric motorcycle company, said, “We are working on an electric bike which will be budget-friendly. The bike is named after the animal “Jaguar”.

He added that they are the first assemblers of electric bikes in Pakistan, who have designed them locally”.

The electric bike has the same shape, size and length as an ordinary motorcycle but it only differs in one thing and that is it only runs on electric batteries.

Usman Shaikh said that his company has decided to take advantage of the existing ecosystem of gasoline-based motors, while locally developing an electric battery system. He said, “We have designed and assembled controllers, battery management systems (BMSs), chargers, motors, and battery packs."

Manufacturers have not compromised on engine and body parts of the bikes, as they are equipped with very much similar to already available Japanese technology in the market.
