BRUSSELS: The European Union on Thursday deplored a wave of fresh anti-EU tariffs by the United States, saying that they would primarily harm US consumers.

The EU "regrets that the United States appears to have taken the decision to impose additional tariffs on EU exports," European Commission spokesman Daniel Rosario told a news briefing.

"This is a move that will first and foremost hit US consumers and companies," he added.
