Upping the ‘tempo’: Brexit team, EU officials decide to meet twice a week in Sept

Stepping up the tempo, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that his Brexit team will meet with Europe
Published August 30, 2019

Stepping up the tempo, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that his Brexit team will meet with European Union (EU) officials at least twice a week in September.

After the British PM’s chief Brexit negotiator David Frost met EU officials on Thursday, Johnson said that both sides have agreed to meet twice a week. He said the additional technical meetings will also be held to discuss a way forward on securing a new deal.

“It’s time to up the tempo. The increase in meetings and discussions is necessary if we are to have a chance of agreeing a deal for when we leave on October 31 — no ifs, no buts,” The Sun quoted the Britain premier.

On Wednesday, the British prime minister had requested the Queen to suspend the Parliament from mid-September. His request was approved by the Queen. This move by Johnson is part of a drive to prevent politicians from delaying his Brexit plan. This mean MPs will not have time to pass any laws that could stop Johnson from taking the UK out of the EU without a deal.

Johnson has promised that Britain will leave the EU with or without a deal on October 31.
