HAMBURG: The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association has purchased 110,000 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in an international tender for the same volume which closed on Tuesday, European traders said.

The purchase involved a range of different wheat types.

The wheat was bought in two consignments.

The first consignment involved 29,585 tonnes of U.S. dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $251.10 a tonne FOB U.S. Pacific Northwest coast, traders said.

The consignment also included 19,850 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $237.69 a tonne FOB and 5,565 tonnes of western white wheat with 9 percent protein bought at $237.86 a tonne FOB. It was for shipment between April 13-27 and was all sold by trading house ADM.

The consignment has an additional freight charge of $26.98 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, the traders said.

The second consignment involved 29,300 tonnes of U.S. dark northern spring wheat of 14.5 percent protein content bought at $248.96 a tonne FOB U.S. Pacific Northwest coast, they said.

It also involved 19,025 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5 percent protein content bought at $236.10 a tonne FOB and 6,675 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9 percent protein bought at $235.64 a tonne FOB.

The second consignment was for shipment between April 27 and May 11 and was all sold by trading house Columbia Grain International.

The second consignment has an additional freight charge of $27.68 a tonne for ocean shipping from the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, the traders said.

Chicago Board of Trade front month wheat futures fell 4.2 percent to contract lows on Monday.

In its last reported tender on Jan. 29, the Taiwanese association purchased 55,000 tonnes of milling wheat also to be sourced from the United States.
