Former president and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari Sunday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI's) government won't last long. Addressing a public gathering in Sadiqabad on Sunday, the former President said that he doesn't think the 'captain's' government will last long as Prime Minister Imran Khan made false promises and failed to work according to the aspirations of the nation.
The former president went on to say that the prime minister fails to understand the political issues, adding that Imran Khan will have to go home if he fails to deliver. "Don't try to become a king after reading two books," he told the premier. Zardari said: "The circumstances were the same when his party came into power, adding that he transferred presidential powers to the parliament."
"There were no political prisoners during the PPP's tenure," he added. He also dispelled the notion that the PPP had passed the 18th amendment to serve its interests. Zardari also said that if he hadn't delegated the president's powers to parliament, today no dentists or 'pakora' sellers would be able to become president.
"We are the true representative of people. We are not puppets," he said. He also criticized Imran Khan for citing examples from history to justify the U-turn he has taken. "He will not be able to manage the economy, nor will he be able to hold up to the false commitments he made," he said. Taking a jibe at the federal government, he said that the PTI government failed to create South Punjab as a separate province.
"You [PTI] stole our slogan [of creation of south Punjab province]," Zardari claimed. "We said great, you take this step, someone should. Now they don't have the courage. "Why don't they announce [a separate province]? Why don't they divide Punjab's budget? But they never intended to [act on their promise]. They don't have any understanding of politics," he added.
