CBOT wheat firms, posts first weekly gain in four weeks

Published Updated

CHICAGO: Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures ended firm on Friday on spillover support from higher corn, ending the week higher for the first time in four weeks, traders said.

Gains were capped by a firmer US dollar, which can slow export demand as it makes US shipments costlier for buyers holding other currencies.

CBOT December soft red winter wheat closed up 3/4 cent at $5.08-3/4 a bushel, gaining 0.7 percent on the week.

K.C. December hard red winter wheat settled up 3 cents at $5.04-1/4 a bushel and MGEX December spring wheat closed 3-3/4 cents higher at $5.80-1/2 a bushel.

US farmers are likely to expand plantings of both corn and wheat while reducing soybean seedings for the upcoming marketing year, the US Agriculture Department said on Friday.
