HAMBURG: South Korea's largest animal feedmaker Nonghyup Feed Inc. (NOFI) has issued an international tender to purchase up to 207,000 tonnes of corn and 69,000 tonnes of feed wheat to be sourced from optional origins, European traders said on Tuesday.

Tender deadline is also Tuesday, March 13.

The corn was sought in three consignments all of between 52,000 to 69,000 tonnes.

The first consignment for arrival around July 15 was sought for shipment between May 27 to June 25 if sourced from the US Pacific North West Coast, between May 13 to June 11 if from the US Gulf/east Europe/South Africa and between May 8 to June 6 if from South America.

The second for arrival around July 25 was sought for shipment between June 6 to July 5 if from the US Pacific North West Coast, between May 23 to June 21 from the US Gulf/east Europe/South Africa or between May 18 to June 16 from South America.

The third consignment for arrival around Aug. 10 was sought for shipment between June 22 to July 21 if from the US Pacific North West Coast, between June 8 to July 7 from the US Gulf/east Europe/South Africa, or between June 3 to July 2 from South America.

The feed wheat was sought in a single consignment for arrival around July 20.

Wheat shipment was sought between June 17 to July 6 from the US Pacific North West Coast/Australia/Canada, between May 28 to June 16 from the US Gulf/east Europe and between May 23 to June 11 from South America.

South Korean buyers, including NOFI, moved heavily into international markets in recent days, buying about 660,000 tonnes of corn in the past week.

NOFI bought some 202,000 tonnes of corn on Wednesday.

US benchmark corn futures jumped to a seven-month high on Thursday after US Department of Agriculture estimates showed smaller-than-expected stockpiles in the wake of increased US exports and demand for ethanol.

Drought in Argentina also threatens to damage soybean and corn crops in the country.
