ISLAMABAD: Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) on Monday slammed Barrister Saif over his recent remarks, asking Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Gohar Ali Khan and secretary general Salman Akram Raja to issue him a show-cause notice and tell him to “shut up”.

Speaking at a press conference, TTAP spokesman Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai questioned Saif’s standing within the party, claiming he had lost his position, was being ignored and no longer had any association with the PTI.

“He has lost his job, nobody is giving him any importance and he has nothing to do with the PTI. In what capacity is he spreading propaganda,” he asked.

Yousafzai also accused the federal government of having removed the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) unconstitutionally, alleging that an undeclared form of martial law was in force in the province.

Questioning the government’s commitment to negotiations, he said there was no indication that it was serious about dialogue, insisting that any talks must be held on the basis of principles rather than surrender.

He announced that the united opposition would meet on November 4 to finalise a date for an all-parties conference (APC).

Taking a swipe at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), he expressed reservations about inviting the party to the proposed conference, saying the opposition alliance had made a mistake by extending an earlier invitation.

“We regret inviting the PPP. What did it give us in return in KP,” he asked, challenging the party to clarify which side it stood on.

He said those invoking the legacy of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto should examine the Constitution rather than merely invoking his name, adding that they would be embarrassed by the exercise.

Asked about developments over the past two years, Yousafzai said the alliance could not comment on the matter.

He recalled that PTI founder Imran Khan had consistently expressed confidence in Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas when meetings with him were possible.

He said the alliance had formulated its strategy in accordance with Imran Khan’s instructions, rejecting reports that the former prime minister’s sisters were creating obstacles.

“We have not compromised on the sacrifices of Imran Khan. We will neither do so ourselves nor allow anyone else to do so,” he said.

Describing the movement as a struggle for democratic rights, he said the alliance would neither abandon its principled position nor allow its political struggle to be undermined.
