I am pleased to convey my greetings on the occasion of the Best Corporate & Sustainability Reports (BCSR) Awards 2025, an annual initiative jointly organized by ICMA Pakistan and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.

Pakistan needs enterprises that can translate ambition into sustainable economic value. Achieving this requires informed leadership, disciplined resource management and a clear understanding of business performance. Corporate reporting supports these objectives by explaining how organizations deploy capital, respond to challenges and deliver on their commitments. Its quality influences the decisions of investors and the confidence of other stakeholders.

ICMA Pakistan views reporting excellence through the broader responsibilities of the management accountancy profession. Management accountants connect financial information with operational realities, helping businesses understand costs, evaluate alternatives and assess the implications of strategic choices. Their contribution extends to planning, performance measurement and responsible stewardship of resources. As organizations address increasingly complex economic and environmental challenges, these capabilities can strengthen the information underlying corporate disclosures and help ensure that published reports reflect the substance of how businesses are managed.

The BCSR Awards encourage organizations to examine this connection between management practice and public disclosure. They provide recognition for reporting that enables readers to understand achievements alongside the factors that may affect future performance. The initiative also offers an incentive for boards and management teams to review their reporting processes and pursue continuous improvement. This approach can help organizations identify weaknesses earlier, align reporting with strategic priorities and build stronger foundations for accountability across every level of the enterprise.

Sustainability deserves particular attention within this effort. Decisions concerning energy, materials, people and investment have consequences that extend beyond a single reporting period. Organizations should explain how these considerations influence their business models, priorities and allocation of resources. Meaningful disclosure requires reliable measurement and an honest assessment of progress, supported by governance arrangements that assign responsibility and enable boards to monitor delivery against stated objectives.

I congratulate the award winners and appreciate every participating organization for its commitment to improving corporate communication. I also acknowledge the Joint Task Force, evaluators and judges for their professional contribution, and thank the organizing teams, sponsors and partners for supporting this joint endeavour. The collaboration between ICMA Pakistan and ICAP demonstrates our shared interest in advancing reporting practices that serve businesses, stakeholders and the wider economy.

Looking ahead, I encourage corporate leaders to use reporting as an opportunity to examine the quality of their decisions and the durability of their results. Our collective ambition should be a business environment in which credible information supports productive investment and responsible growth. May these Awards inspire organizations to strengthen their management practices and communicate their contribution to Pakistan’s development with greater clarity and confidence.
