Muslim, European countries seek negotiated solutions to regional conflicts

  • Discuss rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb, and the situation in the Black Sea

Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, collectively referred to as the R4, along with France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, have called for urgent efforts to address regional conflicts through dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation.

The understanding was reached at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the eight countries in Istanbul, according to a joint press release issued after the talks.

The ministers stressed the need for lasting, negotiated solutions to outstanding conflicts in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.

They discussed a range of regional and international issues, including the US-Israel conflict with Iran, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the need for a negotiated two-state solution.

The discussions also covered Houthi militia attacks against Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government, as well as the safety and freedom of navigation, rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, and the situation in the Black Sea.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and beyond, while addressing the security, economic and trade implications of the conflicts.

They also agreed to continue dialogue in the same format to help prevent conflicts and advance regional peace and stability.
