MUMBAI: India’s equity, currency and debt markets are closed on Tuesday, October 20, for a local holiday. Trading will resume on Wednesday, October 21.

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell 1.17 percent to 73,852.9, while the NSE Nifty 50 index declined 1.11 percent to 22,888.95 on Monday, with private banks leading the losses as investors digested earnings from key lenders, while elevated crude prices weighed on sentiment.

The Indian rupee was mostly flat versus the US dollar at 94.925 rupees, erasing modest early gains after local stocks slumped and importers stepped in to buy dollars over a largely subdued trading session.

The benchmark 10-year bond was quoted at 96.935 rupees, with the yield up 1.31 bps at 7.392 percent on rising bets of a domestic rate hike as oil prices spiked and fanned inflation fears.
