KARACHI: The first Africa Diplomatic Economic Conference will be held on Tuesday to promote trade relations between Pakistan and African countries and increase exports.
Diplomats from 16 African countries, government officials and representatives of trade organisations will participate in the conference.
According to the organisers, there is considerable potential to increase Pakistan’s trade with Africa from USD2 billion to USD10 billion.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi here on Monday ahead of the first Africa Diplomatic Economic Conference, Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui, Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan SADAC Chamber Trade Federation (PSCTF), said that African countries represented emerging markets for Pakistan.
He emphasised that, given the current global situation, Pakistan must focus on exploring new export markets.
PSCTF Chairman Muhammad Rafiq Memon, President of the Pakistan Chapter Syed Moezuddin and other representatives were also present on the occasion.
Dewan Yousuf Farooqui said that developing a joint trade strategy was essential to achieving the target of increasing Pakistan’s trade with Africa from USD2 billion to USD10 billion.
PSCTF Chairman Muhammad Rafiq Memon said the conference would emphasise reducing tariffs, resolving customs-related issues and facilitating access for Pakistani products to African markets.
He added that Pakistan had significant potential to increase exports of cement, textiles, rice and medical devices.
Syed Moezuddin expressed hope that the first Africa Diplomatic Economic Conference would open new avenues for promoting trade cooperation between Pakistan and African countries, boosting Pakistani exports and further strengthening bilateral economic relations.
