Filing of Income Tax returns: FBR chairman urged to further extend deadline to Nov 15
ISLAMABAD: Tax advisers, consultants, tax experts and chartered accountants have requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman to further extend date by November 15, 2026 keeping in view genuine concerns.
In a communication to FBR Chairman on Monday, Javed Iqbal Qazi, Advocate Supreme Court and Chairman of the Pakistan Tax Advisers Association, requested for extension in time for filing of Income Tax returns/Wealth statements for the Tax Year 2026 which falls due on 15.10.2026.
Due to financial constraints/crises in country, very slow functioning of IRIS system, load-shedding problems being faced in different areas of the country and heavy burden on tax practitioners, advocates and chartered accountants the target fixed for number of returns cannot be achieved by October 15, 2026.
At present about 60-65 percent of the work has been completed by all tax practitioners and target fixed by the FBR will not be achieved by 15.10.2026.
The quantum of returns required to be filed by the taxpayers through the above noted three categories of the tax practitioners is too heavy and requires lot of time for the preparation of returns, as new columns have been inserted in the return forms which require lot of time for submission of the same, deposit of tax through CPRNS in the banks and submission on IRIS system.
The Pakistan Tax Advisers Association has received many massages from our members throughout the country to help the taxpayers/tax practitioners for the redressal of the genuine demand of the public at large and to achieve the financial targets fixed by FBR on the following grounds.
i) That manual return for low-income taxpayers has not been uploaded as yet on IRIS system.
ii) That the functioning of IRIS portal is very slow and takes too much time for uploading of the return which has been made too lengthy and tedious.
iii) That the financial position of the taxpayers have not allowed them to deposit their tax liability in the government exchequer in time.
Javed Iqbal Qazi has requested the FBR chairman that in the interest of justice and fair play, it is prayed that the taxpayers, the tax practitioners be facilitated and the last date of submission of returns be extended upto November 15, 2026.
