KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said Pakistan belongs to its youth and urged them to focus on entrepreneurship, startups and businesses instead of relying mainly on jobs for their livelihood.
Addressing the Youth Summit on Tuesday night, which was organized by Alkhidmat Karachi at the Expo Centre, he encouraged young people to become job creators and provide livelihood opportunities to others. The summit featured a career zone, startup and innovation zone, youth talent showcase arena, panel discussions and other activities.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Pakistani society was clearly divided into two segments: common people, including salaried, low-income and service-provider taxpayers, and the elite. He said the salaried class paid between Rs650 billion and Rs700 billion in taxes, while landlords across the country collectively paid only Rs12 billion. The middle class, he added, had rapidly shrunk in the country.
“I want to tell the youth that cult politics leads nowhere,” he said, urging young people to play their due role for the country and society. Talking about the petroleum development levy, he said the “extortion tax” would not be tolerated and the government would have to withdraw it. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman highlighted Alkhidmat’s contribution to the society, particularly its Bano Qabil programme.
