Tax returns: Pakistan banks to extend working hours on Sept 30

  • September 30 is deadline for filing tax returns in Pakistan
Published Updated

Commercial banks in Pakistan will keep all their branches open until 10:00pm on Wednesday, September 30, to facilitate over-the-counter (OTC) payment of government duties and taxes.

According to a statement from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the decision was taken at the request of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to facilitate taxpayers in making payments on the last day of September.

The SBP also advised banks to keep concerned branches open for as long as required to facilitate special clearing of government transactions conducted by the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT).

It further directed banks to ensure uninterrupted availability of online payment channels, including internet banking, mobile applications, ATMs and other digital platforms, for payment of government duties and taxes.

It may be noted that September 30 is the deadline for filing tax returns in Pakistan.

On Monday, Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), urged the government and the FBR to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns by one month – moving the cutoff date to October 31, 2026 – to facilitate trade, industry, and other tax filers.

There is 100% probability of FBR extending the date considering their past track record.
