MUMBAI: India’s equity, currency and debt markets are closed on Monday, September 14, for a local holiday. Trading will resume on Tuesday, September 15.
The benchmark BSE Sensex was down 0.16 percent to 74,781.76 and Nifty 50 index declined 0.34 percent to 23,398.1, on Friday, as the escalating Middle East conflict pushed crude oil prices higher, raising concerns about inflation and global interest rates.
The Indian rupee dropped 0.1 percent versus the US dollar to 95.55, as a sharp rise in oil prices heaped pressure on Indian markets while central bank intervention helped limited the currency’s decline.
The benchmark 10-year bond was quoted at 99.41 rupees, with the yield up nearly 5 bps at 7.0233 percent, as surging oil prices, a global debt rout and concerns over the RBI’s liquidity stance pushed the benchmark 10-year yield above 7 percent, wiping out gains from the central bank’s June measures to attract dollars.
