CJP advocates judiciary-govts liaison for increased service delivery

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi emphasized the importance of sustained institutional coordination between the judiciary and provincial governments for translating judicial reform objectives into tangible improvements in court infrastructure, public facilitation and service delivery.

The CJP said this on Wednesday while chairing a meeting, which was attended by Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput; the Minister for Law, Government of Sindh; the Chief Secretary, Sindh; and the Secretary Finance, Government of Sindh, to review progress on judicial sector development projects in Sindh.

The meeting reviewed progress on key initiatives concerning the judicial sector, including the construction of Women Facilitation Centres, the shifting of provincial and federal courts to suitable premises, and the timely provision of funds to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted completion of ongoing judicial infrastructure projects. The issues relating to the District Courts Complex at Korangi were also discussed, with emphasis on resolving outstanding matters and expediting progress.

The Chief Justice underscored that adequate infrastructure and timely financial support are essential for the effective functioning of courts and the efficient dispensation of justice. He emphasized the importance of sustained institutional coordination between the judiciary and the Provincial Government for translating judicial reform objectives into tangible improvements in court infrastructure, public facilitation and service delivery.

The representatives of the Government of Sindh reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to continuing its support for the judicial sector and giving priority to projects aimed at strengthening the administration of justice. They assured that the relevant departments would maintain close coordination with the judiciary to address outstanding issues and facilitate the timely completion of the projects.

The Chief Justice emphasized that, through continued consultation and close coordination among all stakeholders, including the SHC, the Bar and the Government of Sindh, an amicable and viable solution would be reached.

The initiatives form part of the broader judicial reform agenda aimed at making justice institutions more accessible, efficient, citizen-centric and responsive to public needs through improved infrastructure, technology-enabled facilities and strengthened public facilitation.
