LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended an order passed by a civil court in a suit seeking Rs60 billion as compensation from the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) for the use of land for a grid station.
The high court passed the order and sought replies from the respondents by September 3.
The petitioner claimed that LESCO had established a grid station on his 45-kanal land in 1976 and that he was entitled to compensation of Rs60 billion for the use of the property. He contended that the Federal Ombudsman had recommended in 2013 that compensation be paid according to the market value of the land.
LESCO disputed the petitioner’s ownership claim, maintaining that the provincial government was the actual owner of the land. The high court also directed the person claiming entitlement to the compensation to appear in person at the next hearing.
