ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to conduct hepatitis screening of government employees working in Islamabad.
The screening drive set to begin today (Tuesday).
Health ministry officials said that Federal Minister for National Health Services and Regulations, Mustafa Kamal, was to launch the drive in which the employees of all ministries and departments would be screened for hepatitis.
Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal would launch the hepatitis C screening programme at the Ministry of Health.
Officials said employees who tested positive for hepatitis C would be provided free PCR tests.
The government would also provide free medicines to hepatitis-positive government employees.
A total of Rs67 billion has been allocated for the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis Programme, while Rs1 billion has been allocated for the programme in the current fiscal year.
Officials said that 50,000 testing kits had been purchased for the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis Programme.
Testing of hepatitis C samples is currently underway at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
