RAWALPINDI: A high-level Norwegian delegation led by Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide called on Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the ISPR, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral relations between Pakistan and Norway.
Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan’s perspective on global peace and regional stability, stressing the importance of cooperation and joint efforts to address common security challenges.
The Norwegian foreign minister appreciated the professional role played by the Pakistan Armed Forces in promoting regional peace and stability.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in the defence and security sectors, the ISPR said.
Eide arrived in Islamabad earlier on Thursday for a two-day official visit, marking the first visit by a Norwegian foreign minister to Pakistan in 10 years.
According to the Foreign Office, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, climate change, maritime affairs and education. They also acknowledged the contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Norway and agreed to promote stronger people-to-people contacts.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the friendly ties between Pakistan and Norway and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The talks also covered regional and international developments, with particular focus on recent developments in the region.
The Norwegian foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace during the recent Iran-US conflict, including the diplomatic efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
