TEHRAN: Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, who is presently on a visit to Tehran, on Wednesday met with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and took him into confidence on the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
During the meeting, the minister conveyed to the president the message from Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz on the present situation in the region.
President Masoud Pezeshkian has commended Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran, stressing Tehran’s readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation across political, economic, trade, cultural and security fields.

President Pezeshkian highlighted the deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two neighbouring countries.
The Iranian president said the commitment of Pakistan’s leadership to strengthening solidarity and expanding relations with Iran was highly valuable to Tehran. He emphasized the need to make better use of the two countries’ existing capacities to raise the level of bilateral cooperation, saying Iran was prepared to expand ties in all areas of mutual interest.
President Pezeshkian also underlined the importance of Iran-Pakistan relations within the broader regional context. He called for stronger interaction and greater use of the available potential to expand economic, commercial, cultural and security cooperation.
According to the Iranian president, closer bilateral ties could serve the mutual interests of both nations while contributing to greater stability and security across the region.
Naqvi, for his part, expressed satisfaction with his meeting with President Pezeshkian and said his visit to Tehran was aimed at following up on agreements and understandings reached during the recent visit of Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to Pakistan.
The Pakistani minister reaffirmed the longstanding and close relationship between the two countries, stressing that Iran-Pakistan ties were strong and unbreakable.
Naqvi said Islamabad was determined to pursue the comprehensive development of relations with Tehran. He also emphasized the importance of implementing existing agreements and understandings, describing his visit as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation mechanisms and accelerate the implementation of commitments reached by the two sides.
Naqvi is assisting the field marshal, who is in touch with the US, Iranian and Gulf countries’ leaders to restore peace in the region.
Naqvi, who arrived in Iran on Tuesday, held meetings with Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Petroleum Minister Mohsen Paknejad.
The two sides discussed the promotion of bilateral relations and situation in the region.
According to Iranian media, Naqvi also met with Iran’s Petroleum Minister Mohsen Paknejad.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and ways to expand trade and economic relations between Pakistan and Iran.
The two sides emphasized the need for strengthening trade and economic exchanges by utilizing common capacities and areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the energy sector.
Paknejad said the longstanding economic, trade and cultural relations between Iran and Pakistan provided a strong foundation for expanding cooperation in various fields. He highlighted opportunities for greater collaboration in the energy sector.
Paknejad said there were several areas of potential cooperation in the petroleum sector, including trade in petroleum and oil products, and the export of technical and engineering services, particularly in the field of refining.
The meetings are part of ongoing efforts by Pakistan and Iran to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
