ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Norway are set to strengthen bilateral relations as Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide arrives in Islamabad on a two-day official visit today (Thursday) to discuss trade, investment, climate change, renewable energy and education.
Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement, “At the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, will undertake an official visit to Pakistan on 13–14 August 2026, the first such visit by a Norwegian Foreign Minister in a decade.”
During the visit, the DPM/FM and the Norwegian Foreign Minister will hold delegation-level talks covering the full spectrum of Pakistan–Norway relations. The two sides will discuss avenues for further expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, climate change, renewable energy, education and people-to-people contacts. They will also exchange views on important regional and international developments.
The visit builds on sustained high-level engagement between the two countries, including telephone conversations between the two Foreign Ministers in March and April 2026, and the visit of Norway’s State Secretary, Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, to Islamabad in May 2026.
The visit will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Norway and to explore new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
According to the statement, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar separately chaired a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to review Pakistan’s upcoming diplomatic engagements and assess preparations for forthcoming high-level visits, including the visit of the Norwegian Foreign Minister to Islamabad. The meeting took stock of Pakistan’s bilateral engagements, as well as regional and international developments.
The DPM/FM underscored the importance of effective coordination and thorough preparations to ensure substantive outcomes from forthcoming diplomatic engagements.
Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch and relevant MoFA officials attended the meeting.
