KARACHI: The Naya Nazimabad Independence Day Sports Festival kicked off with a colorful ceremony to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm.
The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the attendees singing the national anthem. A twelve-year-old student, Ayat, performed a patriotic song that was greatly appreciated by the audience. The opening ceremony featured a flag-hoisting ritual, the release of pigeons into the air, and a cake-cutting ceremony.
Syed Muhammad Talha, President of Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana, stated that the sports festival is being organized to celebrate the occasion in a grand manner.
The sports festival features a variety of competitions, including cricket, football, snooker, squash, tennis, padel, table tennis, swimming, badminton, skating, and archery. The events will continue until August 14. On the night of August 13, a musical concert will be held, accompanied by a spectacular fireworks display.
He remarked that Allah Almighty granted victory to the Pakistani armed forces in the battle for truth, and it is now his desire to see Pakistan achieve success in the realm of sports as well. He noted that Naya Nazimabad stands as a tangible embodiment of Chairman Arif Habib’s vision for a “Sports City,” featuring facilities for over twenty different sports.
Talha added that there is no shortage of talent among Pakistani youth; they are highly capable and simply require the right patronage. Despite limited resources, national athletes have achieved immense success globally. He stated that expanding sports facilities would foster a greater passion for sports among Pakistani youth. He expressed a desire to see Pakistani youth deliver outstanding performances at the Olympics as well.
Ghani Usman, Tariq Iqbal, and others also addressed the gathering.
A large number of citizens attended the event, including Senior Manager Raheel Karim, Sports Manager Muhammad Asif, and Sindh Tennis Association Secretary Khalid Rahmani.
Certificates were distributed to children who participated in the summer camp, while Sajid Irfan, Muhammad Amir, Afra Siddiqui, Syeda Sidra, Safdar Ahmed, Ibrahim Shaikh, Abdul Shakoor, and others were presented with awards of appreciation.
