ISLAMABAD: In its last two fuel price reviews, the federal government revised the Petroleum Levy (PL) rate upward on petrol by Rs2.65 per litre, while keeping the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) unchanged.

The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) announced the decrease in the ex-depot prices of petrol and HSD, effective from August 7, based on the recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).

Under the revised rates, petrol has been reduced by Rs3.19 per litre from Rs333.01 to Rs329.82, while HSD saw a decrease of Rs1.50 per litre, moving from Rs383.86 to Rs382.36.

Under the current pricing framework, Ogra updates fuel tariffs daily to reflect Singapore Platts trends in the last seven working days and currency exchange movements.

The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance announced a wheel jam strike on August 8. They demanded that taxes on diesel should be reduced and fuel prices must be restored to July 1, 2024 level.

The PL on HSD remains unchanged at Rs80 per litre, whereas the PL on petrol was raised to Rs72.26 per litre on August 6 and further to Rs73.47 per litre on August 7. The Climate Support Levy (CSL) stays at Rs5 per litre, while Customs Duty is set at Rs21 per litre for petrol and Rs15.68 per litre for HSD.
