LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab said on Thursday that water flow remains normal in most of the province’s major rivers, including the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej, while river flows in Dera Ghazi Khan district are also within the normal range.
A PDMA spokesman said there is a low level of flood at the places of Kalabagh and Chashma in the Indus River. The flow of water at Kalabagh is 364,000 cusecs while at Chashma 321,000 cusecs has been recorded. Similarly, there is a low-level flood in Nala Basantar in Narowal district, but the PDMA is continuously monitoring the situation. DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said on the instructions of Punjab government, flood relief camps have been established in the flood-affected areas where the victims will be provided accommodation food, clean water, medical facilities and other basic needs.
DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa appealed to the citizens to take precautionary measures in view of the current situation of weather and floods and avoid unnecessary going near rivers, canals, rivers and rainy roads or sightseeing. The DG PDMA urged parents to take special care of their children and never allow them to bathe or enter rivers, canals, streams or flood waters. He said in any emergency situation, follow the instructions of the relevant institutions and ensure the safety of themselves and their families by taking timely precautionary measures.
Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa visited PDMA’s warehouse Muzaffargarh and took a detailed review of the relief materials, machinery, equipment and inventory available there.
During the visit, the Director General PDMA inspected the availability, quality, records and storage arrangements of relief materials available in the warehouse. He also reviewed the functionality of the resources, machinery and equipment stored to deal with emergencies and took a briefing from the concerned officers.
Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa directed that all relief materials should be kept fully ready at all times to deal with any possible emergency and it should be ensured that a prompt and effective response can be given if needed.
He said as per the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the capacity of disaster management institutions across the province is being further improved so that timely relief can be provided to the public in natural disasters and other emergencies.
He directed the concerned departments to remain fully alert in view of all kinds of emergencies including monsoon, make mutual communication effective and make all necessary arrangements at all times to provide timely assistance to the public.
The PDMA spokesperson appealed to the citizens to contact the PDMA helpline 1129 for immediate assistance and guidance in case of any emergency or natural disaster.
