Will Modi be undone?

Perhaps as a student of history a responsibility devolves upon to remain steadfast in adhering to recording of “Truth” based on facts that inherently must be sound and devoid of refutability. Imagination overdrive of historians normally ends up in distorting events. History shouldn’t be that fiction which deliberately leaves out the truth. History is a reality. There is no man or country that doesn’t have history.

To mine and several others’ chagrin, Narendra Modi has survived in office since 2012. If nothing happens, he will become the longest serving prime minister of India, beating the record of Jawaharlal Nehru. To mention the two diametrically opposite political characters in one sentence is a political and historical blasphemy. One stood for secular India while the other for Hindutva. A man of peace versus a man filled with hatred who willingly deploys the use of violence against the weak and the oppressed.

Nehru was popular because of his commitment to live and let live. He was a die-hard secularist. Modi is a political and religious fanatic. His politics has been of promoting hatred towards all religious minorities in India, especially the minority of over 200 million Muslims. Modi has been consistent in his destructive politics of subverting the secular Constitution of India. He has actually promoted Hinduism, not in its original format of being a religion of peace and tolerance, but as a victim of history, given the over a thousand years rule of Muslims in Hindustan. He has never masked nor regretted his politics of vengeance towards Muslims of India. He has systematically indulged in ethnic cleansing.

It all started with the genocide of Muslims in Gujarat, where Modi served as Chief Minister of the state. He never expressed regret or remorse. In fact that event emboldened him to pursue his bigotry. He indoctrinated, alongside with his political keeps, like Amit Shah, the concept of Hindutva into the youth of India. Thus far he has been successful. But Nature has its own plans.

Modi’s aim is to make Hindu-India. RSS, whose worker, Ghodse, was the assassin of Gandhi, is the forerunner of Jan Singh party that later transformed to Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP. M.S. Golwalkar, who led RSS for over three decades, believed India was the holy land of the Hindus. He wrote: “Hindustan is the land of the Hindus and is the terra firma for the Hindu nation alone to flourish….” Modi is an active subscriber to this vein of thought. This is true as reflected by his moves and actions.

History is about present and not about the future. This moment now is a history, a moment later. In an honest evaluation Modi needs to be credited for holding a complete sway over Indian politics, despite being the firebrand of intolerance, and whose polity is encased in hatred. His political passion and principle are housed in akhand bharat. No doubt, India has progressed well economically. On the international front, he was doing well. Modi developed “brotherly” relations with our “brothers” in the Middle East; some of it was and has been costly for us. He was doing well diplomatically until he faltered with an uncalled for visit to Israel.

Modi was given a red carpet welcome in Tel Aviv and possibly some award too. He alienated the long-standing relationship with Iran. Inspite of this diplomatic belligerence, Modi was still wooed by our friendly countries of the Middle East. Netanyahu and Modi are two sides of the same coin. Since Modi and Netanyahu share the appellation of being ‘butchers’ of Gujarat and Gaza, respectively, they also have unanimity of thought for pursuing the ‘greater Israel’ and ‘greater India’ agendas. India has an intimidating attitude towards Nepal, Banglad esh, Myanmar and the Maldives.

Pakistan taught Modi a lesson in warfare. We stunned the Indians under the leadership duo of the Prime minister and the Field Marshal. The downing of Indian aircrafts is considered to be pride of any air force; the French-built Rafael is a deep wound that Modi is “nursing”. We must remain alert to this snake charmer, a chameleon with other reptilian traits. The injury of defeat is continuously garnished afresh by the US President who continues to increase the number of aircrafts that fell from sky in that limited encounter. Trump’s last tally put it at eleven of them!

The politics of hatred cannot be pursued endlessly. When systems are built upon injustices, it is but inevitable that Nature would move into action to correct the wrongs. Retribution for misdeeds is a natural consequence.

Perhaps Modi’s hour of reckoning has arrived with the victory of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)! He misread the writings on the anvil. I suspect he will continue to misread. Modi felt infallible after recording victories, in Orissa, West Bengal and Bihar. The nomenclature of protest referred to as ‘cockroach’ will most likely gather strength as we go down the road now.

30-year-old, Abhijeet Dipke, is credited with the opening and naming the Cockroach Janata Party. It derived its name from the slur used by the Chief Justice of The Supreme Court of India, where the Chief Justice, Surya Kant, drew comparison between unemployed youths turning to become social media activists as ‘cockroaches and parasites’. Dipke appealed to all “cockroaches” to unite. They did.

An insulting remark of the chief justice became the rallying point for the youth of India; as Dipke says; cockroaches flourish only in a rotten environment, so there is a need to overhaul the entire system with Gen Z to lead the change. One hopes that Cockroach Janata Party does not flounder like the Aam Adami Party (AAP).

Cockroach is a flat, nocturnal insect that has several species. The common however is they all have a hard shell, long antennas and six strong legs. The same “pests” overthrew the government of Hasina Wajid in Dhaka. These potential political cockroaches aren’t afraid of light; in fact, they seek spotlight and centre-stage. They are cold-blooded …they can live over a month without food and can hold breath in excess of forty minutes. Their bite is inflammatory. The “Cockroach Party” of India has proven beyond doubt that they too possess all these qualities of cockroaches.

Cockroach Janata Party caught the attention of the over forty percent of Indian graduates, who are below the age of 25 and are unemployed. They recently forced the resignation of the education minister over the issue of examination paper leaks. CJP might restart their demonstrations because the official agenda on their centers on sweeping anti-corruption laws, judicial overhauls, and deep institutional change. The government of Modi is in danger of this cockroach revolution.

The Gen Z movement in Bangladesh that toppled a government that was firmly saddled for over 15 years has become the harbinger of youth-led movements. New Delhi was the second station in this journey of political resurrection. The youth since the 1968 movement have challenged the status quo.

Modi has sown the ill wind of hatred and he will likely face and reap its whirlwind sooner than later. “One leak will sink the ship, and one sin will destroy the sinner.” (John Bunyan in Pilgrims Progress). As you make your bed so you must lie upon it is a time tested adage. History is a great dump and heap of the follies of men. The CJP could be the death knell for the politics of Modi.

The Arab Spring died on the streets because of lack of will and betrayal. CJP is a movement likely to unleash the youth potential against Modi’s governance. It is estimated that almost 30 percent of India’s population is between the age band of 15-29.

The protest at Jantar Mantar was viciously attacked by the police, a student died too. Pakistan has officially condemned the use of pellets. It is a fact that India is a large country and Jantar Mantar is not easily enactable across its length and breadth. Having said so, CJP’s movement sent tremors right up to Telangana in the south. CJP and its manifesto, along with the Congress part, can spell doom for Narendra Modi. In any case, a natural correction of injustices levied upon minorities will happen; only a matter of time.

The cockroaches are gathering and ticking against Modi.
