LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif paid glowing tribute to the police martyrs who laid down their lives for the country and the nation, and saluted the patience and resilience of their families on the occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day.

In her message, the chief minister said the sacrifices rendered by the Punjab Police in the fight against terrorism, extremism and crime were unforgettable. She said every officer and jawan of the Punjab Police had demonstrated unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and protecting the lives and property of citizens.

She said the nation saluted every police officer serving on the frontlines to secure a safer future for the country. She added that the Punjab government was fulfilling its responsibility towards the welfare and care of the families of police martyrs in the best possible manner.

Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government had assumed responsibility for providing quality education, healthcare, housing and other essential facilities to the children of police martyrs.

The chief minister said that, alongside the Safe City Project, the sacrifices of police martyrs had played a pivotal role in making Lahore one of the world’s safer cities. She highlighted that, due to the dedicated efforts of the Punjab Police, Lahore had surpassed several developed cities in the Numbeo Crime and Safety Index.

She said the Punjab Police were being equipped with modern weapons, state-of-the-art protective and communication equipment, bullet proof vehicles and other essential resources to further strengthen law enforcement.

The chief minister observed that the sacrifices of police martyrs had borne fruit, adding that the riverine (Katcha) areas were now not only secure but also progressing on the path of development.
