ISLAMABAD: The Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation rose to 9.2 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in July 2026, compared with 11.1 percent in the previous month and 0.7 percent in July 2025, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday.
The data showed that, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the CPI increased by 1.2 percent in July 2026, compared with an increase of 0.3 percent in the previous month and 2.9 percent in July 2025.

According to the PBS, urban CPI inflation increased by 8.7 percent on a YoY basis in July 2026, compared with 11.2 percent in the previous month and 4.4 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, urban CPI rose by 1.2 percent in July 2026, compared with an increase of 0.5 percent in the previous month and 3.4 percent in July 2025.
According to data, rural CPI inflation increased by 9.9 percent on a YoY basis in July 2026, compared with 10.9 percent in the previous month and 3.5 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 1.2 percent in July 2026, compared with no change in the previous month and an increase of 2.2 percent in July 2025.
The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based inflation increased by 12 percent on a YoY basis in July 2026, compared with 12.8 percent in the previous month, while it had recorded a 0.9 percent decline in July 2025. On a MoM basis, SPI inflation increased by 2.4 percent in July 2026, compared with 0.7 percent in the previous month and 3.1 percent in July 2025.
Meanwhile, Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation increased by 9.4 percent on a YoY basis in July 2026, compared with 10.7 percent in the previous month, while it had declined by 0.5 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, the WPI remained unchanged in July 2026, compared with a 1.2 percent decline in the previous month and a 1.2 percent increase in July 2025.
SPI inflation on a YoY basis increased by 12 percent in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 12.8 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.9 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 2.4 percent in July 2026 as compared to 0.7 percent in the previous month and an increase of 3.1 percent in July 2025. Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation on a YoY basis increased by 9.4 percent in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 10.7 percent in the previous month and a decrease of 0.5 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, no change is observed in July 2026 as compared to a decrease of 1.2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 1.2 percent in July 2025.
Core inflation (NFNE), measured by non-food non-energy urban, has increased by 8.6 percent on YoY basis in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 8.7 percent in the previous month and an increase of 7 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.7 percent in July 2026 as compared to a decrease of 0.1 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.8 percent in July 2025.
Measured by non-food non-energy rural increased by 8.1 percent on a YoY basis in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 7.9 percent in the previous month and an increase of 8.1 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.9 percent in July 2026 as compared to 0.2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.7 percent in July 2025. Core inflation (trimmed), measured by 20 percent weighted trimmed mean urban, increased by 7.5 percent on a YoY basis in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 9.6 percent in the previous month and 5.1 percent in July 2025.
On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.6 percent in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.3 percent a month earlier and an increase of 1 percent in July 2025. Measured by a 20 percent weighted trimmed mean, rural increased by 8 percent on a YoY basis in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 9.3 percent in the previous month and 4.9 percent in July 2025. On a MoM basis, it increased by 1 percent in July 2026 as compared to an increase of 0.5 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.7 percent in July 2025.
On account of the Urban Consumer Price Index (UCPI), on a MoM basis, the prices of the following food items witnessed an increase: Tomatoes 116.75 percent, fresh vegetables 22.06 percent, potatoes 21.54 percent, onions 20.15 percent, chicken 19.05 percent, eggs 14.30 percent, wheat 7.42 percent, wheat flour 6.75 percent, tea 3.55 percent, bakery &confectionary 1.40 percent, rice 1.26 percent, gur 1.19 percent, milk powder 1.12 percent and milk fresh 0.99 percent. While prices on the following food items’ witnessed a decrease: Fresh Fruits 5.51 percent, pulse moong 3.36 percent, pulse mash 2.27 percent, pulse masoor 1.23 percent, gram whole 1.17 percent, besan 1.07 percent, beans 0.72 percent, sugar 0.35 percent, butter 0.16 percent, fish 0.11 percent and pulse gram 0.05 percent. Monthly prices of the following non-food items witnessed an increase: Motor Vehicle Tax 38.68 percent, communication services 19.30 percent, accommodation services 3.16 percent, mechanical services 1.99 percent, drugs and medicines 1.95 percent, communication apparatus 1.82 percent, washing soap/detergents/match box 1.59 percent and house rent 1.48 percent. Prices of the following non-food items registered a decrease: Motor Fuel 8.25 percent, liquefied hydrocarbons 7.64 percent, transport services 5.39 percent, electricity charges 3.36 percent and personal effects 1.75 percent.
On YoY basis prices of the following commodities registered an increase: Tomatoes 174.74 percent, wheat 77.71 percent, onions 75.86 percent, wheat flour 67.56 percent, wheat products 18.46 percent, meat 14.53 percent, butter 13.10 percent, ice cream 12.09 percent, bakery and confectionary 10.83 percent, dry fruits 9.28 percent, milk products 9.04 percent and milk fresh 8.34 percent. On YoY basis prices of the following food items recorded a reduction: Potatoes 34.36 percent, sugar 20.96 percent, pulse gram 19.45 percent, besan 17.39 percent, gram whole 15.42 percent, pulse masoor 13.60 percent, chicken 13.49 percent, eggs 10.31 percent, fresh vegetables 9.76 percent, beans 7.55 percent, pulse moong 7.18 percent and gur 2.91 percent. Annually, on account of UCPI, prices of the following non-food items went up: Liquefied hydrocarbons 46.43 percent, motor vehicle tax 38.68 percent, postal services 34.70 percent, footwear 29.33 percent, newspapers 28.54 percent, transport services 26.10 percent, personal effects 21.64 percent, communication services 19.30 percent and motor fuel 16.04 percent. While only textbook prices recorded a reduction of 1.72 percent on an annual basis.
On account of WPI on MoM basis prices of the following items registered an increase: Vegetables 40.32 percent, edible roots/potatoes 36.25 percent, poultry 23.39 percent, eggs 19.09 percent, fibre crops 18.92 percent, sugar confectionary 9.50 percent, wheat 7.84 percent, mobil oil 7.39 percent, chocolate 7.33 percent, wheat flour 6.33 percent and stimulant & spice crops 4.38 percent. While prices of the following items recorded a decrease: Furnace oil 15.79 percent, motor spirit 10.07 percent, maize 5.35 percent, oil cakes 5.23 percent, diesel oil 3.40 percent, pulses 2.53 percent, electrical energy 2.52 percent, fresh fruits 2.49 percent, cement 2.19 percent, dry fruits 1.34 percent and dried fruits & nuts 1.24 percent.
On annual basis prices of the following commodities registered an increase: Wheat 81.41 percent, sorghum/jowar71.54 percent, wheat flour 69.24 percent, footwears 51.86 percent, kerosene oil 42.97 percent, furnace oil 33.33 percent, diesel oil 27.21 percent, woven fabrics 25.51 percent, mobil oil 25.31 percent, dried fruits & nuts 23.55 percent and dyeing material 22.99 percent.
While on YoY basis prices of the following items on account of WPI registered a decrease: Edible roots/ potatoes 39.39 percent, stimulant & spice crops 25.88 percent, other cereal flour 23 percent, sugar refined 21.32 percent, pulses 18.19 percent, millet/bajra17.73 percent, poultry 13.03 percent, eggs 9.18 percent, electrical energy 5.68 percent, dry fruits 4.82 percent, sugar crops 3.52 percent, timber 1.74 percent and cotton seeds 1.60 percent.
