KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee posted marginal gain against the US dollar for another week as it appreciated by 0.03 percent in the inter-bank market.
The local unit closed at 277.80, a gain of Re0.07 against 277.87 it had closed at against the greenback a week earlier, according to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data.
The SBP’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), in its first meeting in the fiscal year 2026-27, decided to keep the policy rate unchanged at 11.5 percent. The decision was in line with market expectations.
Meanwhile, foreign exchange reserves held by the SBP declined by USD229 million to USD17.03 billion during the week ended July 24, 2026, mainly due to external debt repayments. The country’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves stood at USD22.44 billion. Of these, commercial banks held USD5.41.
Open-market rates
In the open market, the PKR lost 16 paise for buying and 3 paise for selling against USD, closing at 278.93 and 279.85, respectively.
Against Euro, the PKR lost 2.75 rupees for buying and 3.06 rupees for selling, closing at 321.63 and 324.83, respectively.
Against UAE Dirham, the PKR gained 7 paise for buying and 3 paise for selling, closing at 76.27 and 76.91, respectively.
Against Saudi Riyal, the PKR gained 13 paise for buying and 6 paise for selling, closing at 74.56 and 75.18, respectively.
