Jam Kamal adds to calls for governance reforms
- Reform and restructure in the governance model is the only way forward, says minister
Federal Minister for Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Saturday renewed calls for sweeping governance reforms, reinforcing a growing narrative among senior government officials that Pakistan’s administrative structure requires fundamental restructuring.
In a post on X, the Minister stated:
“Reform and restructure in the governance model is the only way forward. And, its needed more in this new era of digital speed then before.”
The minister shared the statement alongside one of his earlier posts from August 5, 2018, in which he highlighted structural weaknesses in governance and stressed the need for a service-oriented public administration.
In the earlier post, he wrote: “I agree…our governance structure has collapsed in Balochistan and it is not interested in anything. If it would have been a proper service oriented provincial govt then all would have been fine. The biggest task first is to make it a fully functional as a public service delivery.”
The minister’s remarks follows Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi remarks on Thursday. He said the existing governance system has collapsed, warning that the country’s longstanding issues cannot be resolved without fundamental reforms, including the creation of new administrative units.
Yesterday, Director General, Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that the security situation could not be addressed through kinetic operations alone, stressing that good governance was “quintessential” for Pakistan’s security and stability.
Meanwhile, by revisiting his earlier remarks, Jam Kamal reiterated that effective governance requires continuous institutional reform, restructuring, and a stronger focus on efficient public service delivery, particularly in an era driven by rapid digital transformation.
