ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday welcomed progress under the Board of Peace towards implementing the disarmament process envisaged in the Gaza Peace Plan, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing hope that the latest developments would pave the way for the plan’s full implementation and a lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
In a post on X, Sharif praised the mediating countries, the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkiye, for their role in advancing the process, saying they deserved “special appreciation” for achieving the progress.
He also credited US President Donald Trump for his role, saying that under Trump’s “courageous leadership”, the development represented “a significant achievement” for the Board of Peace.
Sharif said Pakistan hoped the latest progress would be followed by concrete steps to implement all commitments under the Gaza Peace Plan.
He added that Pakistan also hoped the efforts would help realise the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination through a credible, time-bound political process in line with international legitimacy and relevant UN resolutions.
Such a process, he said, should culminate in the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
