KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, on Monday said that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), under the leadership of its Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is continuing its development agenda across Sindh with a special focus on improving civic infrastructure, healthcare facilities and public services in Karachi.
He said the provincial government is implementing development projects worth billions of rupees to provide better amenities to the people.
He expressed these views while addressing the media after inaugurating a renovated and upgraded dispensary in Hijrat Colony.
Adviser to the Sindh Government on Katchi Abadis, Najmi Alam, elected representatives, party leaders and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
Nasir Shah said the dispensary had been renovated and upgraded at a cost of PKR 50 million over the past year to provide improved healthcare facilities to residents of the area. He stressed that the construction of the facility alone was not enough, adding that its efficient management, availability of qualified medical staff, medicines and quality healthcare services would also be ensured so that the public could fully benefit from the project.
The provincial minister announced that several more development projects in Karachi would soon be inaugurated as the Sindh government continues to expand infrastructure and public welfare schemes across the metropolis. He said improving municipal services and enhancing the quality of life of citizens remain among the government’s top priorities.
Referring to the recent monsoon rains, Nasir Shah said Karachi’s situation has improved significantly compared to previous years due to advance planning and coordinated efforts by the Sindh Government, the Mayor of Karachi and all relevant civic agencies.
He said Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah personally monitors the situation during heavy rains and all concerned departments remain active in the field to provide timely relief to citizens.
Commenting on the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, the minister alleged that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party had secured a lead in several constituencies according to the initial results, but claimed that the outcome in a number of seats was changed later in the night.
He said the development had raised serious questions over the transparency of the electoral process and urged the Election Commission to fulfill its constitutional responsibility in ensuring free and fair elections.
Speaking on the water issue, Nasir Shah alleged that India was violating international laws and agreements by restricting water flows and said water should be distributed fairly and equitably among all stakeholders. He said the Sindh Government had consistently raised the issue at every available forum, while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also forcefully presented Pakistan’s position and criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies.
He added that the PPP would continue its struggle to safeguard Sindh’s water rights and protect the country’s interests.
