KARACHI: A high-powered delegation from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) met with officials of the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) at PAA headquarters on Wednesday, two weeks after a K2 Airways cargo plane crashed into the Arabian Sea.

The meeting focused on capacity building, consultancy services, and a future roadmap for Pakistan’s aviation sector, according to a PAA statement.

The IATA delegation included Sheldon Hee, Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific; Azhar Azahari, Regional Manager for South Asia; and Feroze Jamall, IATA’s Country Manager for Pakistan.

PAA officials briefed the delegation on the authority’s infrastructure projects and operational record, which the visiting representatives “appreciated,” the statement said.

The meeting was held at a time when the investigators remain unable to determine what brought down K2 Airways Flight 1732. The Boeing 737-400 freighter was flying from Sharjah to Karachi on July 7, 2026, when it crashed following a reported malfunction of navigation systems. All five crew members remain missing.

According to the reports, the crash site sits roughly 3,000 meters deep, a depth that would require a costly recovery operation.

Meanwhile, the underwater locator beacons attached to the flight recorders of the K2 Airways’ nearly three-decade old Boeing 737 are designed to discharge audio signals for only about 30 days, a window now more than halfway elapsed.

PAA statement further said that both PAA and IATA reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation for the sustainable growth and development of Pakistan’s aviation sector.
