AI-powered monitoring system: PM launches PMOS to manage complete lifecycle of directives

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday launched an artificial intelligence-powered platform to monitor the implementation of government directives, ordering all federal ministries and divisions to shift official work to the new system as part of the government’s move towards paperless governance.

The platform, named the Prime Minister’s Office System (PMOS), is designed to digitally manage the complete lifecycle of the prime minister’s directives – from issuance and assignment to progress tracking, completion and post-implementation review.

Addressing the launch ceremony, the prime minister said the traditional movement of paper files between government offices would end, directing ministries to conduct official business through the new digital platform.

“There will no longer be a traditional paper-based file system,” Sharif said, stressing that the system must be implemented effectively to improve governance, public service delivery and administrative efficiency.

He said the platform would help ensure timely and effective implementation of government policies by introducing an automated mechanism for monitoring progress and accountability.

The prime minister directed all ministries and divisions to fully adopt the system, saying digital governance would improve transparency, speed up decision-making and strengthen institutional performance.

Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima said the initiative represented a shift from simple digitisation towards the use of artificial intelligence in public administration.

She said the platform would help government institutions improve workflow management, monitor performance and strengthen internal accountability.

Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema said the AI- and data-driven system would support evidence-based policymaking by providing improved monitoring tools and identifying weaknesses in the existing mechanism for tracking official directives.

During a briefing, officials said the AI-enabled system would allow real-time monitoring of government instructions, highlight delays, track deadlines and provide performance reports to improve oversight of ministries and departments.

They said PMOS would serve as the digital operating platform of the Prime Minister’s Office and automate the monitoring of directives issued by the premier.

They said the system would generate progress updates, flag approaching deadlines and facilitate evaluation of completed initiatives, enabling ministries to improve delivery on government priorities.

They described PMOS as the country’s first AI-powered government platform, saying it would mark a major change in how official instructions are monitored and implemented across the federal government.
