Housing schemes: Sindh govt decides to resolve grievances of allottees

KARACHI: The government of Sindh has decided to expedite measures aimed at resolving the long-standing issues of allottees of land development agencies, eliminating illegal encroachments and providing timely relief to affected citizens.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Provincial Cabinet’s Land Committee chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah.

Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, the Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Sindh, Directors General of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA), Sukkur Development Authority (SDA), and other senior officials attended the meeting.

The committee conducted a detailed review of complaints lodged by allottees of Sindh’s land development agencies, including issues relating to land allotments, encroachments, pending cases and other matters affecting genuine allottees.

Senior officials briefed the meeting on the steps taken so far and the progress made in addressing public grievances.

Speaking on the occasion, Nasir Hussain Shah said the Sindh government is fully committed to protecting the legitimate rights of allottees and would take every possible measure to resolve their grievances. He said injustice or exploitation of affected citizens would not be tolerated.

The minister directed all concerned departments to prepare a comprehensive and final list of affected allottees at the earliest to facilitate transparent and merit-based resolution of their cases. He said the government’s objective was not only to hear public complaints but also to ensure their practical and timely redressal.

Nasir Hussain Shah said the Cabinet’s Sub-Committee on Land had been constituted in line with the public welfare vision of Pakistan Peoples’ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and on the directives of the Chief Minister Sindh to provide relief to the people and resolve land-related issues efficiently.

He said a significant number of plots and valuable government lands under the Malir Development Authority (MDA), Lyari Development Authority (LDA) and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) had already been retrieved from land grabbers, while operations against encroachers were continuing in other areas.

He said the government would seek the assistance of the police and other law enforcement agencies to vacate illegally occupied plots belonging to genuine allottees and ensure their restoration to the rightful owners.

The minister reiterated that the ongoing anti-encroachment operations would continue without interruption and that no pressure or influence would be allowed to obstruct the government’s campaign against the land mafia.

He emphasised that sustained and decisive action against land grabbers was essential for protecting the rights of affected citizens and safeguarding public property.

Shah also urged affected allottees to approach the relevant development authorities before seeking legal remedies through the courts, assuring them that the Sindh government would make every possible effort to address their complaints and provide relief in accordance with the law. He further directed all concerned officials to ensure prompt disposal of public complaints, warning that unnecessary delays or negligence in handling such matters would not be tolerated.
