ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reiterated its “unwavering diplomatic, political and moral support” to the Kashmiri people for their “inalienable right to self-determination.”

The day of Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan (Accession to Pakistan Day) marks the historic adoption of a resolution by the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in Srinagar on 19 July 1947.

The resolution expressed the Kashmiri people’s desire for the State’s accession to Pakistan and called upon the Dogra rulers to respect the will of the people, he stated.

This day reminds us of the deep-rooted historical, cultural and spiritual bonds between the people of Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir dispute has remained unresolved for decades despite the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions recognising the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

The continued denial of this fundamental right, coupled with persistent human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), remains a matter of serious concern.

Pakistan has consistently advocated a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Pakistan urges the international community, particularly the UN, to fulfil its responsibility by ensuring the realisation of Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination as this unresolved dispute continues to have profound implications for regional peace and security.

The nation salutes the courage and resilience of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir who have made immense sacrifices in pursuit of their legitimate rights.

Meanwhile, an official statement said that Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of the Control (LoC) observed the Accession to Pakistan Day on Sunday with a “renewed pledge to continue struggle for liberation from Indian occupation and realisation of the 19 July 1947 resolution for Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan.”
