KARACHI: Flour mill owners on Sunday agreed to reduce the ex-mill price of wheat flour by Rs8 per kilogram following successful negotiations with Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi.
The new price will come into effect immediately, which is expected to provide immediate relief to consumers amid rising food prices.
The decision was reached during a meeting held at the Commissioner’s Office on the directives of Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah.
Under the agreement, the ex-mill price of flour will be reduced from Rs133 to Rs125 per kilogram, with the revised rate taking immediate effect.
Commissioner said the reduction in ex-mill prices would also lead to a corresponding decline in wholesale and retail flour prices across Karachi, benefiting consumers.
Representatives of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), including Chairman Abdul Junaid, Vice Chairman and former PFMA chairman, other association members and flour mill owners attended the meeting. Also present were Sindh Food Secretary Ghulam Abbas, the Chairman of the Chief Minister’s Inspection, Enquiries and Implementation Team, and other senior officials.
As part of the agreement, the flour mill owners also assured the administration that they would establish fair price stalls across the city to provide flour to consumers at subsidized rates and ensure the benefits of the price reduction reach the public.
The agreement comes as the Sindh government intensifies efforts to stabilize essential commodity prices and provide relief to households facing increasing inflationary pressures.
