KARACHI: Rescue 1122 Sindh deployed more than 1,200 emergency personnel, 93 ambulances and over 200 medical and rescue camps across the province during Muharram-ul-Harram, providing medical assistance to thousands of mourners and ensuring swift emergency response throughout the 10-day operation, a senior Sindh government official said on Saturday.

Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Rehabilitation Giyan Chand Essarani said the province-wide emergency operation, carried out from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram-ul-Harram, concluded successfully with coordinated deployment of rescuers, ambulances, fire and rescue units and medical teams at major mourning processions and religious gatherings.

Paying tribute to Rescue 1122 personnel, Essarani said the department’s professionalism, prompt response and unwavering commitment during one of the year’s most sensitive periods reflected the Sindh government’s determination to protect lives and maintain uninterrupted emergency services.

He said rescue teams were stationed along the main procession routes in Karachi as well as in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and other districts to provide immediate medical and emergency assistance whenever required.

On Ashura, more than 200 rescuers, over 50 paramedics and eight fire engines remained on high alert at key locations across Karachi, while dedicated emergency control rooms in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur monitored the situation around the clock to ensure a rapid response to any incident.

Essarani said thousands of mourners received first aid, medical treatment and essential medicines during the operation, while 47 patients requiring further care were shifted to hospitals in a timely manner.

In Karachi alone, more than 5,000 people benefited from medical camps established by Rescue 1122, including over 2,600 mourners who were treated at the central medical camp set up at Numaish Chowrangi on the ninth and tenth of Muharram, he added.

The Adviser said the successful operation demonstrated Rescue 1122 Sindh’s operational readiness and capacity to respond effectively under challenging conditions, adding that saving lives remained the department’s foremost mission.

He reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to further strengthening Rescue 1122 by expanding its operational capacity and providing modern equipment, advanced training and improved emergency response facilities to enhance public safety across the province.
