ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday thanked Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for what he described as Doha’s “steadfast support” for peace efforts that led to Islamabad Memorandum of Understan-ding (MoU) signed by the US and Iran on June 18.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that in a telephone call, Shehbaz said both leaders welcomed “positive progress” from the first round of technical talks held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, and agreed on the importance of sustaining momentum through continued diplomacy and dialogue.
Later in a statement posted on X, the prime minister said that he had held a “warm and most cordial” conversation with the Qatari ruler.
Shehbaz also thanked the Emir for his condolences over the death of a Pakistani national in a recent fire incident at Qatar’s Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas complex, where at least 13 people were killed and dozens injured, according to Qatari authorities.
Sharif further praised Qatar’s hospitality towards the Pakistani community and said Islamabad looked forward to hosting the Emir later this year.
