ISLAMABAD: Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi took oath as acting Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court in a dignified ceremony held on Tuesday at the FCC Branch Registry in Karachi.
The oath was administered by Justice Kareem Khan Agha in the presence of judges, officers, and officials of the Court.
Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan is currently on an official visit to Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, where he is attending an international legal conference aimed at promoting judicial cooperation, exchange of legal expertise, and dialogue on contemporary constitutional and legal issues.
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted in accordance with established constitutional and institutional practices.
Justice Hassan will discharge the responsibilities of the office of the Chief Justice during the absence of the Hon’ble Chief Justice, ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of the Court and the continued administration of constitutional justice.
The ceremony reflected the Federal Constitutional Court’s steadfast commitment to institutional continuity, constitutional governance, and the rule of law.
Meanwhile, on account of the closure of the Red Zone in Islamabad as well as keeping in view the difficulties likely to be faced by lawyers, litigants, and the officers/officials of the Courts to attend the Courts, no official work was conducted at the Federal Constitutional Court and the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday.
Consequently, the cause lists of the Courts stand cancelled. However, all officers and staff were directed to work from home and not to leave the station. However, all four Branch Registries of the Federal Constitutional Court remain open for judicial and administrative work.
