KARACHI: Amid growing public frustration over worsening civic conditions, rising inflation and continued governance failures in Karachi, Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, blamed the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for what he described as the systematic destruction of the country’s largest city.
Addressing participants of a public campaign in Karachi, he said both parties had jointly ruled the city and the province at different times and remained equally responsible for Karachi’s decline in basic services, infrastructure and governance. He added that after the political decline of the MQM, the time had come to get rid of the PPP.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader said the people of Karachi and the rest of Pakistan were partners in progress and prosperity, and that his party stood with the public against injustice and poor governance.
He said citizens were facing serious problems due to inflation, unemployment and weak administration, while the ruling elite and powerful groups continued to benefit. Ordinary people, he added, were bearing the burden of economic hardship.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman criticised government policies, saying national resources were being exploited by influential interests. He called for accountability, transparent governance and public-focused policies instead of measures that favoured privileged groups.
He said Jamaat-e-Islami was working to protect citizens’ rights and provide a genuine political alternative. He urged people, particularly the youth, to take an active role in reform efforts and public welfare initiatives.
The gathering was also addressed by local Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including Saifuddin Advocate and Fazal Ahad, who highlighted Karachi’s civic problems and outlined plans for public campaigns and local government initiatives.
